Cancer & Ayurveda

Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the body, which proves to be destructive and life-threatening over a period of time. Cancer is named according to the type of cell growth, and the organ or body part which it affects. Conventional methods of treating cancer are:- surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and immunotherapy.
Cancer is a highly complex disease whose development may take as many as 20 to 30 years before it can be detected. Although modern science has made some major strides in understanding cancer and its molecular basis, the knowledge about how to prevent or treat cancer is still lagging behind. Modern medicine is able to treat or control a majority of the cancers seen nowadays, however, a complete cure may not be possible in a significant percentage of those affected; and side-effects of therapy, and recurrence, are major problems.

The use of gold and gold compounds, as well as their potential therapeutic applications, in ancient and contemporary medicine has been reviewed periodically over the years. Ayurvedic bhasma preparations are most ancient but ultramodern forms of nanotechnology as they have particle size which ranges from 10 to 100 nano meter.

Some researches in biochemistry and nanotechnology proved the role of golden nano particles (Swarnabhasma) in arresting progress of cancer or metastasis. The prefix “nano” means to one-billionth. In the metric scale of linear measurements, a nanometer is one-billionth of a meter. Primarily in the materials science standard, the term “nanotechnology” is now commonly used to refer to the fabrication of new materials with nanoscale dimensions between 1 and 100 nm.
